Discourse in Contemporary Art

Abstract

This text addresses the production of discourses surrounding the artistic phenomenon within the contemporary field, considering that art has expanded into mental and processual territories, striving to accentuate both its mobility and reflection on its practice. Thus, the need to create discourses in the current context is undeniable, since from its origin, art has been characterized by the incessant production of discursive approaches that attempt to give it meaning; however, today a sort of theoretical binder is also needed to unify the diversity of emerging manifestations. Traditionally, those responsible for reflecting on the artistic phenomenon were critics, art historians, and theorists, but recently, also in Latin America, this task has extended to curators and artists. Consequently, this text attempts to investigate the particularities implied by discursive production from the curatorial field, but above all, the artist's reflection on their own practice.
